About Rajeev

Rajeev's Yoga Journey

Born, raised, and educated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India in 1979, Rajeev was deeply influenced by a spiritual lifestyle from an early age, guided by the presence and wisdom of his grandmother. His journey into yoga began in 1997 through his uncle’s guidance and later deepened at the Sivananda Ashram in Neyyar Dam in 2000. He started yoga with a stiff body — and fell in love with the practice from the very beginning.

Rajeev believes that each person's relationship with yoga is unique. For him, yoga is not just philosophy or tradition — it’s a practical path to find peace and harmony in both body and mind. While rooted in the traditions of Sivananda and classical Hatha Yoga, he also draws inspiration from T. Krishnamacharya’s Vinyasa lineage, integrating both structure and flow in his teaching.

His classes focus on building a strong foundation through alignment, healing, and a therapeutic approach to practice. Pranayama and meditation are essential parts of his teaching — practices he emphasizes in every session. He encourages students to feel more deeply through their bodies, cultivating awareness of both inner and physical alignment. He believes that every person is their own best teacher — and sees his role as simply a guide or a tool to support that discovery.

Rajeev is an ERYT500, YACEP provider, and recognized Yoga Acharya, with over 20 years of teaching experience. For the past 15 years, he has offered yoga workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings across India and China. He is the founder of Drishti Vinyasa Yoga Shala, established in Trivandrum in 2010 and in Shanghai in 2011.
